Major Renovation under the UNDP Project Implementation
Following major renovation as part of the UNDP project implementation with support from the Government of Japan, the Artemivsk Municipal Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth was ceremonially opened on January 20.
The Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth is the second facility in the city renovated under the UNDP project “Early Recovery of Social Services and Peacebuilding in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.” In a short period of just 3 months, external and internal renovation work was completed, sanitary facilities were equipped, equipment and furniture for offices were purchased, and educational complexes for children were installed.
The building houses the Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth and the Department of Youth Policy and Children’s Affairs of the municipal government. Thanks to the project implementation, the Center established a club for children with disabilities called “Rays of Light.” 377 children with special needs will be able to develop, receive specialist consultations and learn at the club. A psychological relief room has been equipped for working with this category of children. A social adaptation board, children’s furniture, and educational games will provide valuable assistance for volunteers working with children. Students from the pedagogical college will work with such children free of charge under the guidance of center specialists. The Center also operates an early development school.
Working conditions have been created for center specialists: bright offices, comfortable workplaces equipped with office equipment and internet access. This creates comfortable working conditions for social workers. The workload on each employee increased significantly last year due to the larger number of displaced persons: social services were provided to 1,549 families (1,658 children), with 43 families (75 children) under social support.
