Development of Thermal Modernization Project, Execution of Renovation Work
In Mariupol, the blood transfusion station reopened after renovation – a strategically important facility that serves the entire southern part of the region, where more than 550,000 people live. The station processes and prepares approximately 5.5 tons of donor blood per year.
The building housing the station had not undergone any renovation since 1995. In 2016, a thermal modernization project was developed using funds from the State Regional Development Fund and the regional budget, and renovation work began in March 2017: the facade was insulated, window units were replaced, the roof was replaced and insulated, and a modern automated heating system was installed.
The renovation work was carried out within the framework of the “Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme” of the UN Development Programme in Ukraine, funded by the Government of Japan.
“We worked under less than ideal conditions – the roof leaked, plaster was falling off the facade, and the old Soviet windows did not always open. I believe that donors who come to save other people’s lives should be received under normal conditions. During the renovation, the blood transfusion station did not stop its operations,” said Volodymyr Mavrov.
